~ Linda Tippetts ~
one of Montana's best known plein air painters

Linda Tippetts is one of Montana's best known plein air painters. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 1993 National Arts for the Parks Academy Grand Prize (50,000 dollars). Her work is held in permanent museum collections in Arizona, Montana, and Washington, D.C..

Plein Air Painting is the purest art form. There's no other influence besides the direct communication between the artist and the scene in front of the artist's senses. The composition, color, values, and techniques all become secondary to that subconscious brushstroke which comes with practice.

I've recently returned to my childhood stomping grounds along the Rocky Mountain Front. I'm experiencing old familiar places and backpacking to little-known areas of these fabulous Rockies in Montana to find that magic painting spot where the country stops you in your tracks.

And every day I'm soaking up the culture here-the cattle drives, ranchers and farmers checking their cattle and fields, women driving the farm machinery, powwows and Indian relay races-and I find it's little-changed in my lifetime.
